Job Title: AI Legal Counsel
Location: Cracow, Hybrid (3 days a week from office)
Job Description:
The AI Legal Counsel is a core member of Galderma’s AI Center of Excellence (AI CoE). The role ensures that AI initiatives are legally compliant, commercially defensible, ethically sound, and operationally aligned with Galderma’s digital and IT strategy.
It provides legal leadership across the AI lifecycle - strategy, design/development, procurement, deployment, and monitoring - in accordance with applicable laws and internal standards, including the EU AI Act, GDPR, marketing/claims regulations, and IT security/data governance requirements.
Acting as a cross functional legal partner to GPS, R&D, IT, Procurement, QA, GMA, Marketing, and Data & Analytics, the role enables responsible, efficient, and business enabling adoption of AI across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and maintain Global AI Policies, Standards, Governance Frameworks, and the AI Use Registry/Inventory.
- Lead legal and compliance reviews for AI initiatives, ensuring alignment with internal controls, IT architecture, regulatory obligations, and risk classification.
- Provide legal advisory across the full AI lifecycle, covering data usage, model training, transparency, fairness, explainability, and deployment considerations.
- Review and negotiate AI‑related contracts, including SaaS, IT agreements, DPAs, AI‑specific clauses, IP protections, data rights, and liability frameworks.
- Develop internal AI usage policies, acceptable‑use rules, and employee guardrails aligned with data governance and IT security.
- Partner with Privacy teams to conduct AI Impact Assessments (AIA), DPIAs, and ensure GDPR, EU AI Act, and internal governance compliance.
- Ensure legally compliant documentation, including records of processing, training data documentation, model cards, traceability logs, and technical files.
- Collaborate with R&D, Medical, Quality, and Regulatory to ensure AI-enabled products meet quality, safety, evidence, and claims‑substantiation requirements.
- Lead legal incident response for AI-related issues (bias, hallucinations, data leaks, model failures) and support post‑market monitoring and audits.
- Drive AI training and compliance culture, delivering role‑based guidance, updating policies, playbooks, and monitoring emerging AI regulations and standards.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong legal background with at least 5 years of experience
- Expertise in data protection, privacy impact assessments, and cross‑functional privacy governance (AIA, DPIA, data governance reviews).
- Advanced knowledge of AI‑related laws and regulations, including GDPR, EU AI Act, data privacy frameworks, and emerging global AI standards.
- Experience with technology, IT, SaaS, and AI‑specific contracting, including DPAs, data usage rights, IP, and liability allocation.
- Strong understanding of AI systems, including dataset requirements, model training/finetuning, transparency, risk classification, and monitoring obligations.
- Solid grasp of IP law, software licensing, trade secrets protection, and rights related to data, models, and algorithms.
- Ability to translate regulations into actionable controls, policies, templates, and practical guidance for business stakeholders.
- Experience with compliance risk management, incident response, audit processes, and post‑market monitoring for technology systems.
- Strong cross‑functional stakeholder management, collaborating with Legal, IT, Privacy, R&D, Regulatory, Quality, and business teams.
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex legal/technical concepts in simple, business‑friendly language.
- Continuous learning mindset, with the ability to monitor, interpret, and operationalize fast‑evolving AI laws, standards, and case law.
