We are looking for an energetic and detail-oriented lawyer with 2-5 years of experience in several of the areas below and who is willing to learn the rest under the guidance of our legal and senior management teams. Our legal department plays a key role in all aspects of our sophisticated and growing title insurance and escrow business, providing expertise in the following areas and more:
- general real estate law, including easements, encumbrances, and lien priority issues;
- commercial and residential real estate contracts and transactions;
- construction law;
- escrow laws and regulations;
- title insurance policies, endorsements, coverages, and claims;
- general business law, including business entity governance and authority;
- trusts and estates;
- bankruptcy issues affecting title and escrow transactions; and
- a myriad of federal, state, and local legislative and regulatory issues affecting title agencies and their clients.
Day-to-Day
In this role, you will serve as a practical legal resource throughout the company. Much of the work involves responding to real-time questions from our escrow, title, and management teams. Because our legal team supports active transactions, the work environment can be fast-paced and requires someone who can analyze issues efficiently, communicate clearly, and prioritize multiple matters at once.
Questions may come from all levels of the organization, from escrow assistants and officers working through title or closing issues to senior leadership evaluating business or legal risks. The ideal candidate is comfortable thinking quickly, providing clear and practical guidance, and helping our teams keep transactions moving while managing legal risk.
This role often looks like:
- Answering legal questions relating to real estate transactions
- Helping escrow and title teams work through complex title insurance questions
- Reviewing and revising legal documents based on identified risks
- Advising management on legal and regulatory issues
- Working collaboratively with different departments across the company
Requirements:
- Utah Bar membership
- 2-5 years' experience as a practicing attorney, either at a firm or in-house role
