Job Description

The System Offices is one of several system members within the Texas A&M University System representing one of the largest systems of higher education in the nation, with a network of 12 universities, a comprehensive health science center, nine state agencies, and the RELLIS Campus. Job Description Summary:

This position provides legal support to administrators, faculty and staff of The Texas A&M University System.


Responsibilities:
- Provides legal advice and counsel to System clients in areas, including but not limited to: advising on personnel matters; interpreting federal and state laws and regulations; interpreting System policies, regulations, and rules; developing and drafting policies and procedures; and developing well researched internal legal memorandums and opinions.

- Provides representation of and legal advice and counsel to System clients in judicial hearings and internal and external administrative hearings. Serves as second chair to the assigned Assistant Attorney General litigation.

- Provides guidance in the handling of subpoenas and tor claim matters for System clients.

- Participates in Office of General Counsel matters, including practice area assignments, workshops, briefing papers, legal memoranda, special initiatives, etc.

- Other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience:
- B.A./B.S. plus an earned LLB or JD degree from an accredited law school.
- Seven years of related legal experience.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to manage a broad range of complex legal issues.

- Availability to travel across state to System locations.

- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.


Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:
- Member in good standing of the State Bar of Texas or will seek a Texas law license through reciprocity within 12 months of hire date.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Seven years of relevant experience actively practicing law as a licensed attorney.
