Job Description

Primary Function of Position:

Within Intuitive Surgical, EMEA Legal acts as an enabling function to:

  • Actively support the business in pursuit of sustainable goals.
  • Stand for a culture of ethics, care, and responsibility.
  • Empower surgeons to serve patients.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The position is based at the Intuitive office in Freiburg, Germany with currently 3 days/week onsite presence required.

Supported areas include:

  • Commercial operations, including any legal question concerning the DACH Region
  • DACH–specific regulatory questions
  • General litigation in DACH (incl. public procurement and A/R)
  • Product liability in DACH
  • Presence in relevant Industry Association work groups
  • Back-up of the Production Counsel

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Law degree from German, Swiss or Austrian university with 12 years of industry related experience; or 7 years’ experience with a bar exam and/or PhD in law.
  • German speaker, fluent in English (and a further European language is a nice-to-have).
  • Excellent legal drafting skills as well as 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Excellent training and presentation skills in English and German.
  • Ability to drive pragmatic legal outcomes, working across jurisdictions to ensure global consistency while allowing for local specificities (comparative law thinking acumen).
  • Understanding laws, regulations, industry codes, and best practices governing the medical device industry in DACH jurisdictions.
  • Genuine team player.
  • Flawless and unquestionable integrity, lived up to and clearly communicated as an integral part of your business acumen – with courage, determination, and clarity of purpose.
  • Thriving in deliberately diverse and inclusive international working environments.
  • Mature personality, able to handle pressure when needed and to demonstrate resilience when appropriate: ability to work independently, to prioritize and exercise good judgment.
  • Experience and understanding of complex, matrixed and dynamic (changing) global organizations.

  • Occasional travels (regional and overseas).
