This position, based in Tokyo, will support the Prime Video and Amazon Music businesses in Japan. You will be an integral part of these businesses and will provide ongoing legal counsel across a range of fields, including intellectual property, digital media, and regulatory compliance; and structuring, drafting, and negotiating licensing, marketing, and other commercial agreements. You will also work closely with US and other international legal and business teams worldwide.

The successful candidate must be inquisitive, enthusiastic about technology, enjoy working hard and being continually challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations. The successful candidate will be client-service oriented, and be able to look at the bigger picture while also paying great attention to detail on tight deadlines. The successful candidate will also be able to prioritize appropriately and easily switch gears without sacrificing quality of work, maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion in handling confidential information, and have the ability to work well with people at all levels.


A day in the life
You will serve as legal counsel for various teams within the Prime Video and Music businesses in Japan. You will be a legal and thought partner for the business on day-to-day matters as well as long-term strategic imperatives. You will develop expertise on new product imperatives and work directly with business colleagues as lead counsel on strategic content deals.

- Law degree with honors (J.D. or equivalent) from a leading university and law school.
- Licensed to practice law in Japan
- 3 or more years legal experience with experience at a leading global law firm and/or in-house at a major multinational corporation
- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to summarize complex issues and ideas clearly and concisely
- Ability to work independently and proactively, while also collaborating effectively with other legal team members and global business teams
- Must have strong ability to communicate orally and in writing, draft agreements and negotiate in both Japanese and English

- Experience of a mix of corporate law firm and in-house work
- Experience working with global cross-functional teams
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Outstanding legal and business judgment
- Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
