Position Overview

This role leads Agiloft’s core legal practices across commercial and product domains, enabling the business to move faster while maintaining sound risk judgment. The Associate General Counsel partners closely with executive leadership, product, and legal operations to embed legal guidance directly into decision-making and product development.

This role shapes how legal work is delivered by building scalable, AI-enabled systems that convert repeatable work into structured frameworks, improving speed, consistency, and insight. It plays a central role in aligning legal strategy with business growth, ensuring legal is not a downstream reviewer but an integrated partner.

Key areas of impact include commercial contracting strategy, product and AI counseling, legal-enabled risk frameworks, and the development of a high-performing legal team. The role also contributes to enterprise-level decision-making, engaging directly with executive leadership and the Board.

Over time, success is reflected in increased leverage of the legal function, faster cycle times on repeatable work, deeper integration with product and commercial teams, and measurable evolution of legal workflows through AI enablement.

 

Job Responsibilties

Commercial & Product Legal Leadership

  • Lead legal strategy for commercial agreements, including enterprise SaaS contracts, partnerships, and vendor relationships
  • Provide judgment on complex or non-standard deals, balancing risk with business outcomes
  • Partner with product and engineering to guide legal considerations in product development, including data use and AI-related risks
  • Enable faster decision-making by embedding legal frameworks into business workflows

Legal Practice Transformation (AI-Enabled)

  • Identify repeatable legal work and convert it into structured decision frameworks, templates, and playbooks
  • Partner with Legal Operations and AI teams to implement AI-enabled workflows that increase efficiency and consistency
  • Shift legal work from reactive support to proactive, system-driven enablement
  • Continuously evaluate how legal services can scale with business growth

Risk, Governance & Cross-Functional Enablement

  • Translate legal and regulatory requirements into practical, business-aligned guidance
  • Partner with security, privacy, and AI teams to align risk management with product and operational realities
  • Support policy development and governance structures that reflect actual operating practices
  • Frame risk in a way that enables progress rather than blocks it

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of legal professionals, fostering accountability and continuous improvement
  • Define clear roles, expectations, and development paths across the legal team
  • Coach team members on complex judgment calls and emerging legal areas
  • Build a culture focused on systems thinking, collaboration, and adaptability

Executive & Enterprise Influence

  • Advise executive leadership and the Board on key legal and business matters
  • Contribute to enterprise strategy as part of the Legal Leadership team
  • Act as a delegate for the Chief Legal Officer when needed
  • Influence cross-functional priorities through legal insight and structured thinking
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed attorney with experience advising in complex business environments
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in ambiguous, fast-paced environments and make high-quality decisions with incomplete information
  • Experience driving legal transformation, process improvement, or innovation initiatives
  • Strong critical thinking and judgment, particularly in balancing legal risk with business objectives
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence senior stakeholders
  • Experience working with AI-enabled tools, automation, or system-driven workflows
  • Ability to operate at both strategic and hands-on levels

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of legal experience, preferably in SaaS or technology environments
  • Experience managing and developing legal professionals
  • Background supporting product, engineering, or AI-related initiatives
  • Experience building or implementing legal playbooks, frameworks, or scalable systems
  • Exposure to high-growth or transformation-stage organizations
