We are seeking a Corporate Counsel to join Aviva Canada’s General Counsel Office, providing support to business partners throughout the organization.
In this capacity, you will work with skilled legal leaders and colleagues to offer practical, high-quality legal counsel across diverse corporate, commercial, and regulatory issues. This is an excellent chance for a junior to intermediate lawyer seeking to advance an in-house legal career in a nurturing, team-oriented setting.
You will gain exposure to Aviva Canada’s business priorities, build positive relationships with collaborators, and continue developing your legal judgment and commercial experience.
Collaborate with business teams to deliver clear, practical, and timely legal advice.
Assist senior lawyers with a broad array of corporate, commercial, and regulatory issues.
Manage assigned legal files and matters, building confidence and independence over time.
Identify potential legal risks and collaborate with senior counsel to address them proactively.
Keep up to date with legal and regulatory changes impacting Aviva Canada’s operations.
Build strong working relationships across Legal and the broader organization.
Work with external counsel and professional advisors as needed.
Bring Aviva’s values to life through your advice, interactions, and decision-making.
Call to a Canadian provincial bar with a current practising licence.
2+ years of legal experience gained in private practice and/or an in-house environment
Understanding of the Canadian legal and regulatory system.
Strong legal research, drafting, and negotiation skills.
Clear, effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple demands and meet deadlines.
A collaborative approach and the ability to build trust with diverse partners.
Experience in insurance and/or working with large financial institutions
Comfort working with a range of business collaborators.
Curiosity, learning agility, and a proactive approach.
The salary band for this position ranges from $120,000 to $150,000. Please note that individual salary is determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience, as well as internal equity.
