In this role, you will serve as a trusted legal partner, supporting a mission-driven organization dedicated to delivering meaningful social impact. You will handle a broad range of legal matters, from contracts and compliance to governance, privacy, and risk management, while contributing to strategic decision-making across teams. Operating in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, you will collaborate closely with leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to enable responsible growth and operational excellence. This role offers high autonomy, strong influence, and exposure to diverse legal challenges. You will play a key role in shaping legal processes, mitigating organizational risk, and supporting innovative programs. Working fully remotely, you will contribute directly to initiatives that create lasting, positive change nationwide.

Accountabilities:

    • Lead and manage day-to-day contracting activities, including drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and advising on a wide range of commercial, technology, development, sponsorship, licensing, and marketing agreements.
    • Develop and improve legal policies, processes, training programs, and contract workflows to enhance efficiency and risk management.
    • Provide legal guidance across multiple domains such as data privacy, technology, product counseling, fundraising, compliance, governance, employment law, international law, and organizational risk management.
    • Monitor and interpret new and evolving laws, advising internal stakeholders on compliance, regulatory developments, and strategic considerations.
    • Manage third-party requests for information, government inquiries, and investigations in coordination with internal teams and external counsel.
    • Serve as a strategic advisor and thought partner to senior legal leadership and cross-functional leaders on high-impact legal matters.
    • Handle complex and novel legal issues independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams and external law firm partners.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with external legal partners and internal stakeholders.
    • Support organizational initiatives through proactive legal insight, sound judgment, discretion, and ethical decision-making.
    • Requirements:
    • Active membership in at least one U.S. state bar in good standing, with authorization to practice in the applicable jurisdiction.
    • Minimum of 5+ years of experience as a practicing attorney, with strong expertise in general legal advising, contract drafting, and negotiations.
    • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with both legal professionals and non-legal stakeholders at various seniority levels.
    • Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
    • Strategic mindset, capable of balancing legal risk, operational needs, and business objectives.
    • Demonstrated ability to navigate novel, complex, and sensitive legal matters with discretion and cultural awareness.
    • High attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness in all work.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
    • Preferred qualifications include 7–10+ years of legal experience, in-house or nonprofit experience, exposure to LGBTQ+ community legal matters, multi-disciplinary legal expertise, and Spanish language proficiency.
    • Benefits:
    • Competitive base salary range of $130,000–$150,000 per year.
