The Deputy General Counsel, Government Relations, Trade & External Affairs is responsible for leading the company’s government relations and public policy strategy across federal, state, and selected international matters. The role provides senior-level legal and strategic leadership on legislative advocacy, regulatory engagement, trade policy, geopolitical developments, and external affairs matters that affect the company’s manufacturing footprint, sourcing model, growth agenda, product strategy, and market competitiveness. The scope is aligned to the government relations priorities reflected in the team materials, including trade and tariff strategy, PAC engagement, legislative and regulatory advocacy, and coordination with business leadership. This position will report to the General Counsel.

How You'll Create Possibilities

Government Relations Strategy

  • Develop and lead the enterprise government relations strategy in alignment with the company’s business and legal priorities.
  • Establish advocacy priorities across federal, state, and selected international jurisdictions.
  • Create favorable environment for Company to operate and expand.
  • Advise the General Counsel and senior leadership on political, legislative, and regulatory developments with potential business impact.

Legislative and Regulatory Advocacy

  • Lead engagement with legislators, executive branch officials, regulators, and policymakers on matters affecting the company.
  • Coordinate with Legal and business teams to support common objectives.
  • Shape and advance policy positions, at a state and federal level, relating to manufacturing competitiveness, tax and regulatory reform, trade, product regulation, environmental policy, privacy and data security, and related issues.
  • Coordinate policy submissions, advocacy materials, external messaging, and stakeholder outreach strategies.

Trade, Tariff, and Geopolitical Policy

  • Serve as the senior legal-policy leader for tariffs, trade remedies, tariff developments, and other trade and geopolitical matters affecting the business.
  • Assess policy developments involving global sourcing, import/export exposure, foreign investment considerations, and geopolitical risk.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to align trade and policy strategy with operational and commercial objectives.

Political Engagement and External Affairs

  • Oversee the company’s PAC and political engagement framework, including strategic planning, governance support, and alignment with enterprise priorities.
  • Lead management of relationships with trade associations, coalitions, outside lobbyists, consultants, and other external advisors.
  • Support external engagement strategies that strengthen the company’s influence and reputation in priority policy arenas with Congress and the Executive Branch.

Business Partnership and Executive Counsel

  • Partner closely with microenterprise leaders and functional leaders across operations, sourcing, supply chain, product, communications, and strategy.
  • Translate public policy developments into practical legal and business advice, including risk identification, opportunity assessment, and response options.
  • Support strategic initiatives involving facility investment, growth, advanced manufacturing, supply chain resilience, and export opportunities.

What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Lead and direct a team of legal professionals in support of goals.
  • Direct and prioritize enterprise government relations activities.
  • Manage outside lobbyists, trade associations, and policy consultants.
  • Coordinate internal alignment on policy objectives and advocacy positions.
  • Prepare executive-level updates and recommendations on significant public policy developments.
  • Support business leaders in anticipating and responding to legislative and regulatory change.
  • Maintain visibility into emerging issues affecting the company’s industry, markets, and operating environment.

Education and Experience

Required

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Member in good standing of at least one U.S. state bar; eligible for in house practice in KY
  • 15+ years of senior-level leadership experience in government relations, public policy, legislative strategy, trade policy, and regulatory affairs.
  • Demonstrated success driving relevant policy outcomes at the federal and state levels.
  • Strong knowledge of trade, tariff, geopolitical, and manufacturing-related policy issues.
  • Experience advising executive leadership on high-impact legal and policy matters.
  • Strong communication, relationship management, and judgment skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in a large manufacturing, industrial, or consumer products company.
  • Experience with trade, supply chain incentives, foreign investment reviews, and U.S.-foreign trade or geopolitical issues.
  • Experience supporting business expansion, manufacturing investment, or import-related advocacy.
