Area of responsibility:

The Head of Legal DACH/ General Counsel is responsible for the cross-company management and control of the legal function in the DACH subregion. The role includes providing legal advice and active support to the executive boards of the operating companies and ensuring the effective integration of the legal function into all business processes. The focus is on developing and implementing standards, harmonizing cross-company regulations and promoting a strategically oriented, proactive legal department.

Tasks and responsibilities:

Leadership & strategic positioning: Defining and actively performing the role of a manager who plays a key role in shaping corporate strategy and goals. Proactively training and raising awareness among senior management and board members about the strategic role of the legal function and promoting a company-wide understanding of the added value of legal leadership.

Legal advice & governance: Comprehensive legal advice to board members and executives on all operational and strategic issues, particularly in the areas of corporate law, contract law, labor law and regulatory requirements in the DACH countries. Promotion of risk governance through the clear identification of legal risks and support for compliance and the departments responsible for implementation.

Standardization & harmonization: Development, implementation and monitoring of uniform standards and best practices for the sub-region to ensure efficient and consistent handling of legal issues. Ensuring that the legal department is aligned with strategic corporate priorities.

Stakeholder management & prioritization: Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, in DACH as well as globally. Clearly communicating the priorities and limitations of the legal department to internal clients to ensure effective resource allocation and focus on strategically relevant issues.

Integration & collaboration: Promoting the close integration of the subregion legal function into the global operating model as well as in operational business processes and supporting cross-company initiatives. Creating clear interfaces and processes to improve cooperation between companies in the subregion.

Risk management & compliance: Systematic identification, assessment and advice on the implementation of legal and regulatory risks. Proactive involvement in the development and implementation of measures to minimize risk and ensure compliance with all relevant legal requirements.

Time and resource management: Independent management and prioritization of own and team resources. Continuous review and optimization of resource utilization to maximize contribution to corporate goals. Promotion of delegation and empowerment within the team.

Investment & innovation: Initiating and implementing investments in the further development of the legal function in DACH, particularly with regard to digitalization, process optimization and increasing legal capacity to meet future challenges.

Legal entity reorganization: Supporting Legal Entity Reorganization (LER) initiatives in close alignment with management guidance, working collaboratively with both country TMO and regional TMO.

Commercial support: Providing commercial support for the customer contracts in coordination with the business division, including the increasing number of large-scale projects in recent years.

Requirements profile:

  • Fully qualified lawyer licensed to practice in Germany
  • Several years of experience in a senior legal role in an international company or a renowned law firm
  • Sound knowledge of civil, corporate, labor and commercial law in the DACH countries
  • Proven leadership experience with a focus on empathetic, inclusive employee management and the development of leadership skills within a team
  • Experience in establishing and managing legal department standards and processes
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage risk across the company and develop governance structures
  • Very good written and spoken German and English
