As an In‑House Counsel (Litigation), you’ll independently manage a varied litigation caseload with a primary focus on housing disrepair claims, helping the organisation resolve matters effectively while minimising cost, risk and impact on customers.
You’ll provide clear, practical and commercially sound legal advice, supporting early resolution wherever possible and working collaboratively with colleagues across the business. Alongside disrepair litigation, you’ll also support wider housing management matters, playing a key role in strengthening compliance, improving processes and reducing future legal risk.
This is a senior, influential role where your expertise will shape legal strategy and support positive outcomes for both the organisation and its customers.

Managing a full caseload of housing disrepair litigation from pre‑action through to trial
Providing expert legal advice on evidence analysis, expert reports, non‑access issues and cost exposure
Supporting early resolution of claims where appropriate to minimise risk and cost
Advising on wider housing management litigation, including ASB possession claims, tenancy fraud, injunctions and complex arrears matters
Acting as a trusted legal advisor to colleagues across the organisation
Preparing and managing litigation, including instructing and working with counsel
Undertaking advocacy where appropriate
Accurately recording and proactively progressing cases using the case management system
Supervising, supporting and sharing knowledge with junior team members
Contributing to continuous improvement and capability building across the litigation team
You’ll be confident, resilient and commercially minded, with strong litigation experience and the ability to manage complexity in a fast‑paced environment.
You’ll need:
Qualification as a Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive (Civil Litigation)
Experience working in a law firm or in‑house within housing management or litigation
Proven experience acting for housing providers in court, including disrepair, ASB, debt recovery and tenancy fraud cases
Strong negotiation skills with advocacy experience
The ability to manage multiple cases of varying complexity under pressure
A proactive, creative and solutions‑focused approach to legal problem‑solving
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Confidence using Microsoft Office and legal case management systems
A collaborative and team‑focused approach to work
