Legal and Compliance Counsel

We are looking for a full-time Legal and Compliance Counsel with experience in the financial services industry to help build and support the Legal and Compliance function at Validus. • Support the embedding of awareness across the Company of its regulatory compliance requirements and responsibilities including ensuring all staff members have read, understood, and signed all Compliance documents including policies and procedures.
• Assist in monitoring the Company’s compliance with regulations in each of the countries in which the Company operates and implementing the Compliance Framework and Compliance Monitoring Plan.
• Assist with the preparation and filing of submissions to the FCA, NFA, CFTC, OSC, MAS, NFSA and other regulators, including relevant public disclosures.
• Work closely with the client onboarding team to ensure KYC checks are completed.
• Liaise with external advisors on legal, regulatory and compliance topics and projects.
• Conduct investigations in respect of any operational errors.
• Assist on the completion of all legal related tasks including supplier due diligence and contractual documentation, IP arrangements, terms and conditions, and delegated reporting.

• Assist on data protection matters.
• Assist with building strong corporate governance including company secretarial and risk control matters.

Essential Skills, Experience and Qualification

• A qualified solicitor (England and Wales) with approximately 2 years’ post-qualification experience in legal and compliance roles within the financial services sector.
• Demonstrate strong contractual drafting and analytical skills, combined with pragmatism and business sense.
• Be able to translate complex legal or factual issues into plain English language communications.
• Have a strong sense of ownership and drive to push complex legal matters forward to completion.
• Work effectively with cross-functional and remote teams in a collaborative manner and be able to perform and deliver results under pressure.
• At least 5 years’ experience in financial services environment, preferably in legal and Compliance
