As Legal Counsel, you will be the key legal business partner for Red Bull Japan, supporting the local management team in identifying, managing, and mitigating legal risks across a fast-paced, entrepreneurial business. You will work closely with the APAC Area Legal Counsel and global legal teams, providing practical, commercial, and solution-oriented legal advice aligned with global guidelines, local regulations, and Red Bull values. This role suits an experienced general commercial lawyer who enjoys variety, autonomy, and working closely with the business. Both Bengoshi and Gaiben will be considered.
Management of Legal Matters in Japan
Acts as the primary legal advisor for all general commercial legal matters in Japan, working closely with the local management team (including the General Manager and Finance Manager) and APAC Legal Business Partners. Manages legal matters directly and engages internal or external legal resources when required.
Provides proactive, practical, and strategic legal guidance to identify and mitigate legal risks arising from commercial activities, protecting Red Bull Japan’s business interests. Partners closely with the business to ensure appropriate commercial agreements are in place with key service providers, customers, and third parties, and that business activities — particularly in events, marketing, and sales — comply with applicable laws and regulations.
Provides timely and accurate information on legal matters to APAC Area Legal Counsel
As the key legal business partner for Red Bull Japan, the Legal Counsel will work closely with the APAC Area Legal Counsel in reporting matters of strategic importance, ensuring compliance with global and departmental guidelines. The Legal Counsel will also (in line with the Legal business partner concept) act as a first point of contact for the Red Bull Japan business for all legal matters.
Where necessary the Legal Counsel will also connect the Red Bull Japan business with legal department contacts in the Science, Regulatory and Government Affairs department, Intellectual Property, Marketing Media and IT, Data & Privacy, Compliance and other specialist departments as needed.
Legal Self Service
Support the business team in Japan to locate, identify and complete the right template agreements, train new employees on the use of templates and importance of contract management. Where necessary, identify and develop (bi-lingual) template agreements where they may be lacking, and arrange for these to be created for use for the business and uploaded to the contract creator system.
Identify and develops legal service initiatives/ Legal Operations projects that increase the effectiveness of delivery of legal services to the business, including ongoing review and development of template agreements and other self-service initiatives for the business to access legal services.
Legal and Matter management
Effectively utilises the department’s established document and matter management systems, to ensure that all work is accurately recorded and archived in a clear, searchable and archived format.
Prepare accurate and timely reports, legal advice and other legal documents including confidential correspondence, agreements, templates/forms, meeting minutes, presentations etc in both English and Japanese as appropriate.
Ability to mark up (track changes) documents. Translate legal documents for internal review and also execution. Provide translation and interpreter services at meetings, negotiations and other legal proceedings.
Management of external counsel
Works alongside the Area Legal Counsel APAC in selecting and working with external service providers within Japan and management of associated budget. Matters to be briefed externally on a case-by-case basis, with much of the legal advice to be provided by the Legal Counsel.
Legal training and tools
Develop and/or roll-out of Legal internal training programs, providing trainings, introducing new tools and processes and coordination of projects, e.g Legal Hub, Data Protection, compliance training and use of the Contract Creator Tool.
Legal Project Management
Support Finance Manager and other Leadership Team (or business) members in management of legal "projects" within the Red Bull Japan organisation that may need an overveiw from legal e.g. renewal of multiple regional office leases, sales contract or other key projects
5 (five years) minimum Post-Qualification Experience (PQE) with in-house experience highly regarded.
Experience in commercial law (contracts, compliance, antitrust etc) ideally in the FMCG industry. Exposure to media, sports, or entertainment law would also be well regarded.
International experience will hold an advantage.
Ability to manage a diverse group of internal stakeholders based around the world
You will play an important role as link between Red Bull Japan and the international (Asia Pacific and HQ) Legal team.
