About the role

This is a hands-on role offering genuine variety and strong stakeholder exposure, within a collaborative in-house legal team.

As Legal Counsel, you’ll partner with business teams and senior stakeholders to provide pragmatic, solutions-focused legal advice across core activities. You’ll work closely with experienced Legal colleagues, reporting to the Senior Leader, Legal (Banking) and have the opportunity to build deep knowledge of the business while contributing to optimisation across the legal function.

Your key responsibilities will include a mix of work including:

Advising on a broad range of matters including banking operations, product development, regulatory obligations, 
Drafting and reviewing customer contracts and terms and conditions 
Supporting with complaints, disputes, litigation, regulatory engagement, operational integration and general operational matters while promoting a strong risk and compliance culture 
Collaborating with internal stakeholders and external advisers to deliver practical, commercially focused solutions to deliver on strategic objectives
Contributing to legal team initiatives, optimisation and uplift to enhance the operations and profile of the legal team
 

About you:

To be considered, you will:

  • Have strong technical legal, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Have solid experience in retail banking (either in-house or in private practice)
  • Have the ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, practical advice for a range of stakeholders
  • Be well organised, adaptable, and able to manage competing priorities
  • Enjoy working collaboratively and building strong, trusted relationships
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment
     

Additionally, you will need the following qualifications: 

  • Admitted to practise as a solicitor in an Australian jurisdiction
  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
  • Hold a current Australian practising certificate
