Job Description

YouGov has an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Legal Counsel. Reporting directly to the Head of Legal, North & Eastern Europe, this is a new global role in our Legal and Compliance team, which forms part of our dynamic Governance department.

Team Purpose

The Purpose of the Legal & Data team is to help deliver long term shareholder value by:

Supporting Growth Understanding our markets & product Developing our IP Protecting our people, assets & reputation; and Operating in an effective, ethical and lawful way in all ways, at all times and in all places.

Role Purpose

The Purpose of this role is to provide commercial legal advice and expertise to the leadership team in your market and to enable the delivery of an effective and timely commercial legal support service.

What will I be delivering?

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts pertaining to the business transactions in your market;
  • Identifying and applying relevant laws to YouGov’s business;
  • Advising on master service agreements, key supplier agreements and general terms and conditions (both YouGov’s templates and third-party versions);
  • Supporting on M&A and other corporate legal matters as requested;
  • Providing wider commercial legal advice and guidance to colleagues on legal risks and contracts
  • Drafting and reviewing data processing agreements and data sharing agreements and liaising with the Data Privacy team on general data protection matters
  • Working with the other members of the Legal Team on compliance matters, including risk management and company policies and procedures
  • Working as part of a dynamic legal team with a high level of autonomy.

  • Champion all aspects of IP, data privacy and legal practice within the YouGov group;
  • Work on strategic legal, privacy, compliance and governance projects with the opportunity to input into emerging areas of strategy and product development in the space where traditional IP and Data laws meet;
  • Support the department with the roll-out and adoption of global policy and processes;
  • Have opportunity to work closely with YouGov’s senior governance professionals, including the General Counsel and Chief Governance & Compliance Officer;

Qualifications

What do I need to bring with me?

  • Qualified solicitor or barrister in your market / region;
  • Must have significant knowledge and experience working in-house in an international team on commercial and IP matters.
  • Experience of providing legal and contractual advice to senior management;
  • Must demonstrate passion and interest for IP and Data law and a willingness to continue to develop professional expertise in these areas to a high standard;
  • Excellent academics, including a law degree or equivalent legal qualification;
  • Experience in an intellectual property or data centric business such as marketing, media, tech, advertising and/or publishing industry;
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with product and engineering teams on artificial intelligence related legal issues;
  • Some experience in drafting legal documents and reviewing commercial contracts to identify compliance risks;
  • A pragmatic and process driven approach to tasks and reporting;
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills;
  • A commitment to YouGov values.

For roles based in California, New York, Colorado, Massachusetts, or Washington State, the base salary hiring range for this position is $135,000 - 170,000 USD

Compensation offered will be determined by multiple factors including location, job-related knowledge, skills

and experience.Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation and additional benefits.
