Legal Counsel
Royal IHCRoyal IHC is looking for an experienced Legal Counsel with strong expertise in commercial law and a hands-on approach to join our team at the head office in the Netherlands.
In this role, you will report directly to the Head of Group Legal & Company Secretary and collaborate closely with stakeholders across the business as well as your colleagues within Group Legal. You will provide high-quality legal advice and support across various areas of the maritime industry, including dredging, mining, offshore, and defence. Additionally, you will contribute to the ongoing development of Group Legal and help shape, implement, and maintain our legal framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver practical, hands-on legal advice on commercial contracts (tenders, offers, negotiations) and strategic commercial initiatives.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex agreements, including shipbuilding contracts and related documentation.
- Maintain and improve standard template agreements, identifying new transaction types that require a standardized or alternative legal approach.
- Promote and facilitate cross-functional and international collaboration.
- Provide proactive support for business opportunities by identifying, assessing, and managing legal and contractual risks.
Your Profile
- 5–10 years of experience in an in-house legal role or at a law firm, ideally in an international environment.
- Academic degree in Dutch law.
- Fluency in Dutch and English, both written and spoken.
- In-depth knowledge of contract law; experience with construction law is a plus.
- Strong understanding of both legal and commercial implications of contracting.
- Expertise in intellectual property protection and licensing.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and flexibility to work across all levels of seniority.
- Positive attitude, proactive mindset, and a practical, results-oriented approach.

A salary between €5700,- and €8354,- gross per month, plus 8% holiday allowance.

Selection process:
After your application, a CV screening will take place first. If your profile aligns sufficiently, a brief telephone intake with the Corporate Recruiter will follow. You will then proceed with a selection process consisting of two interview rounds. After a positive second interview, we will schedule a discussion about the terms of employment. We aim to complete the entire selection process within five weeks.
