Job Description

Viva Energy Australia have an exciting opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join our team and provide expert legal advice and support across a diverse range of transactions and strategic initiatives. This role will primarily focus on our Convenience & Mobility (Retail) business, where you’ll partner with stakeholders to navigate complex legal matters, ensure compliance, and enable business growth.

You’ll play a critical role in shaping commercial outcomes, mitigating risk, and delivering practical solutions that align with our long-term objectives.

Responsibilities & Requirements

Convenience & Mobility (Retail):

• • Provide legal advice on contract interpretation, risk management, and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Draft and review a variety of commercial agreements.
  • Advise on advertising/marketing campaigns and customer competitions.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure legal support aligns with business objectives and mitigates potential risks.

General Legal Support:

• • Provide strategic legal advice to senior management and other departments within the organisation.
  • Stay updated on relevant legal developments and support compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of legal policies and procedures.
  • Manage relationships with external legal counsel and other third-party advisors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent; admission to practice law in Australia.
• Current Australian Practising Certificate.
• Minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience in commercial/corporate law gained within private practice or in-house (preferably within the convenience retailing or energy sectors).
• In-depth knowledge of the Australian Consumer Law, with experience in competition law a plus.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
• High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
