As a Legal Counsel for Spain in our Madrid office your primary objective is to proactively identify and mitigate all legal risks relating to the real estate development and operations (including related infrastructure, power connection and renewable energy projects) in relation to our data centre and light industrial / logistics development projects and existing assets portfolio.
More concretely, this means you will get the opportunity to:
- Draft, review, negotiate and manage agreements and other legal documents in relation to the development and letting or management of data centre and light industrial / logistics projects (e.genergy, power and grid connection and use, RIBA and other design engineering and architect services, EPC agreements, procurement, leases) and related renewable energy and other innovative projects (e.g. PV installations, PPA’s and other energy trading agreements, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, battery installations, waste heat use, wind…);
- Involving and manage external law firms in an effective and timely way and at fair cost;
- Ensuring the coordination of legal disputes and/or litigation;
- Ensure compliance with the company’s policies, standards and assurance processes, support the team on any relevant legal and compliance matters and foster a culture of legal awareness and compliance;
- Proactively advise the organisation on potential legal risks and opportunities by staying updated on relevant laws, regulations, case law, and industry trends impacting the company;
- Working in close collaboration with the local team, the general counsel, other legal counsels in Continental Europe and the wider European team.
Do you recognize yourself?
- Master degree in law from a Spanish university. Additional degree or LLM is considered a plus;
- At least 8 years of proven experience as a legal counsel or a similar role in a company or law firm and in real estate development or construction law for major infrastructure projects;
- Excellent knowledge of contract law (leasing), construction law and/or energy law with a strong interest in all regulatory changes triggered by sustainability.
- The ideal candidate should have experience with drafting, negotiating and managing contracts relating to energy, power and grid connection and use, procurement and contracts for related renewable energy and other innovative projects (e.g. PV installations, PPA’s and other energy trading agreements, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, battery installations, waste heat use, wind…);
- Strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills;
- Ability to work without significant supervision, and independently handle most complex legal matters.
- Ability to work on multiple projects and in different teams with a strong eye for meeting deadlines;
- Perfect knowledge of Spanish and English, both written and spoken. Additional knowledge of Catalan is a plus.
- Able to travel (e.g. short periods of maximum two days in Spain or to Belgium) on short notice and to work on multiple projects under tight time pressure in a fast-changing environment;
- Experience in international projects is an asset;
