This role provides strategic and hands-on legal guidance to product teams in the financial services and loyalty space, helping design, build, and launch innovative products while ensuring regulatory compliance. You will be embedded with cross-functional teams, collaborating closely with product managers, engineers, UX/UI designers, and internal stakeholders to provide proactive legal advice throughout the product lifecycle. The position requires balancing legal rigor with practical business solutions in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. Ideal candidates are entrepreneurial, comfortable navigating novel regulatory issues, and skilled in counseling teams on fintech, banking, and digital product offerings. This role is pivotal in enabling the organization to innovate responsibly while protecting business interests and clients.
Accountabilities
- Provide legal counsel to product teams across financial services and loyalty products, from ideation through launch, operation, and sunset
- Integrate into day-to-day product operations, anticipating risks and creatively resolving issues
- Ensure compliance with U.S. and international laws and regulations, including consumer financial services, banking, and internet regulations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Compliance, Finance, Data, Security, and Corporate Development
- Identify issues outside scope and coordinate resolution with internal legal colleagues or outside counsel
- Deliver timely, clear, and actionable legal guidance to support product development and business goals
- Balance risk management with business objectives to enable innovation and adoption of new products
- Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent, currently licensed in a U.S. state
- 5+ years of legal experience, preferably in-house with consumer financial services, fintech, or crypto/blockchain companies
- Experience counseling product and engineering teams on regulated financial and banking products
- Solid understanding of consumer financial regulations and related government agencies (Reg E, BSA, State MTLs, SEC, CFTC, FDIC, FinCEN)
- Familiarity with consumer protections, internet regulations, AML/KYC requirements, and e-money/money transmission obligations
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to exercise sound legal judgment while providing pragmatic, business-oriented advice
- Team-oriented and collaborative, capable of influencing and partnering across departments
