Description

Purpose

To serve as a member of the Asia Pacific Regional Legal team based in Singapore, working collaboratively with Legal and Compliance teams across both Chubb’s Asia Pacific territories and the Global Legal team in the US. The role involves management of, or support in the management of, legal matters relating to Chubb’s life and general insurance operations in Asia Pacific, including general corporate, regulatory, and compliance issues, as well as product development and distribution. The position also coordinates regular reporting to Chubb’s Global Legal team and requires working closely with all business lines and functional support teams.

 

Responsibilities

  • Advising and managing legal issues arising in relation to Chubb’s compliance with applicable legislation and regulations in Asia Pacific; customers; business partners and general transactions.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating agreements including confidentiality agreements/NDAs, intercompany agreements, distribution agreements, broker agreements, third party provider agreements and IT agreements.
  • Advising and managing local legal counsel in relation to the Legal and Compliance team’s deliverables on regional and global projects.
  • Assisting with regular reporting requirements to Global Head Office in the US.
  • Selecting, retaining and managing external counsel and their legal fees as required.


Qualifications
  • Qualified lawyer holding a law degree from an accredited university.

  • Active license to practice law in common law or other Asia Pacific jurisdictions.

  • Minimum 3 years’ post-qualification experience in a reputable law firm or in-house legal team. 

  • Proven track record of managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced setting across different time zones.
  • Prior experience in financial services, insurance or a regulated industry and/or advising on cross-border matters is an advantage. 

  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to work proactively and independently.

  • Strong negotiation, legal drafting, analytical and communications skills.

  • Excellent written and spoken English.

  • Chinese language skills are beneficial.

  • Prior experience in insurance/financial services across multiple jurisdictions an advantage.
