 Position summary 

 

Dedicated Senior Associate / Special Counsel for Insurer clients which includes ownership and management of a portfolio of Professional Indemnity incidents and claims, liaising with relevant parties, assessing liability and financial exposure and making recommendations for the future strategy of each claim, whilst achieving a superior result for our customers. 


Ownership and maintenance of a portfolio of files 

 

  • Early and effective assessment of policy issues 
  • Proactive assessment of liability and quantum of PI claims
  • Assessment and justification of reserves in line with authority levels 
  • Formulating a commercial strategy for resolution 
  • Assessment of recovery prospects 
  • Employ proactive early intervention strategies to reduce claims cost 
  • Develop a strategy for claim resolution 
  • File and claim reviews 
  • Providing assessment on claims and risks to underwriters upon request 
  • Prioritise tasks to manage allocated files 
  • Mentor more junior team members 
  • Share knowledge across teams 


Maintain the client relationship achieve superior results for our customers 

 

  • Communicate effectively with claimants, insureds, underwriters, brokers, lawyers via written and verbal means 
  • Demonstrate effective negotiation and liaison techniques with clients, claimants, lawyers, brokers, insurers and service providers 
  • Provide training, as required, to the insured to facilitate improved risk management 
  • Report to and update relevant stakeholders regarding claims as required 
  • Facilitate regular and structured contact with clients 

 

Supporting the achievement of company goals and vision 

 

  • Effective file and claim management in order to support in meeting objectives and targets (budget, new business and existing business) 
  • Account retention and development of new business 
  • Utilise marketing and networking opportunities 
  • Supporting other team members as required 

 

Skills required 

 

  • Strong Financial Lines experience (Professional indemnity, D&O. Crime, Cyber)
  • Time management and demonstrated ability to prioritise and multi-task 
  • Effective Negotiation and advocacy ability 
  • Dispute resolution ability 
  • Strong verbal and written communication 
  • Computer skills – Usage of internal systems 
  • Drafting documents, letter writing and typing ability

Functional/Technical Skills 

 

  • Exposure to Professional Indemnity Claims 
  • Broad understanding of the insurance industry 
  • Understanding of the Insurance Contracts Act 
  • Understanding of the Insurance and Privacy Code 
  • Understanding the role of brokers and industry stakeholders 
  • Interpretation of policy/clauses/exclusions 
  •  Solid understanding of the client structure, fee structure and invoice process 
  • Ability to assess quantum and reserve effectively 
  • Understanding of Law/Tort/Contracts and State Jurisdictions 
  • Ability to identify conflicts of interest
