Job Summary
Responsible, trusted legal advisor and legal subject matter expert on privacy, cybersecurity, data protection, artificial intelligence, technology, and intellectual property, primarily supporting White Cap’s digital and data-driven business initiatives and compliance. This role provides pragmatic, risk-based legal guidance, leads complex matters, may manage outside counsel, and partners closely with key stakeholders across the organization.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
Collaborates with legal team and stakeholders to provide expert and strategic legal advice to management, key stakeholders, and executives.
Advises on the use of technology, legal risk and governance, development and implementation of policies and controls, documentation and audit readiness, and alignment with evolving legal and regulatory expectations.
Provides legal support for cybersecurity and privacy programs, including incident response preparedness and execution, internal and external investigations, audits, and regulatory inquiries arising from data security incidents.
Drafts, reviews, and revises a variety of legal documents, including mergers and acquisitions and commercial contracts, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with applicable data-related laws, and to obtain intellectual property rights in data.
Manages complex legal issues, including providing legal responses, evaluating costs, developing strategies, and overseeing the resolution of disputes, particularly focused on intellectual property portfolios.
Conducts legal research and stays updated on changes in applicable federal and state laws and regulations that may impact the company.
Advises on U.S. federal and state privacy and data protection laws, regulatory trends, and enforcement activity, and translates legal requirements into policies and practical guidance for business and operational teams.
Develops and delivers training and guidance for employees and leadership on privacy, cybersecurity, AI, and data/digital governance, supporting a culture of compliance and responsible data use.
Performs other duties to support the legal team, as needed.

Achieves planned results by decisions and actions based on professional methods, business principles, and practical experience. May recommend/make decisions regarding new programs/initiatives that have significant impact to the business and carry consequences in unsuccessful endeavors.
Manages a larger team or multiple small teams through direction of subordinate management and/or supervisory staff.
Work Environment
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Typically requires overnight travel less than 5% of the time.
Education and Experience
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school, 7+ years post JD experience in a law firm or in-house setting.
Preferred Qualifications
An analytical mindset with the ability to assess complex situations and develop appropriate strategies with strong negotiation and drafting capabilities.
Demonstrated experience advising cross-functionally and translating regulatory obligations into pragmatic business solutions.
Extensive knowledge of U.S. federal and state laws governing intellectual property, privacy, data protection, and technology, including data security and breach response, cybersecurity risk, digital platforms, marketing and advertising technologies, and emerging artificial intelligence regulatory frameworks.
Experience advising on and managing data and technology regulatory matters and disputes, including privacy investigations, regulatory inquiries, data incidents and breaches, enforcement actions, and related litigation and arbitration, in coordination with business stakeholders and outside counsel.
Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
