Today MSC is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to expand its Litigation and Disputes Team.

YOUR IMPACT

As part of the Litigation and Disputes Team, you will play a role in resolving and litigating a wide variety of matters (commercial, corporate, criminal, regulatory, employment, investigations) across multiple jurisdictions for the MSC Cargo Division covering issues relating to logistics terminals, rail, road, and air cargo. You will:

  • Oversee and manage the company’s disputes (out of court, in litigation, arbitration, or other alternative dispute resolution proceedings) globally and across internal functions[1].
  • Advise management and business units on day-to-day contentious legal issues and dispute prevention; as well as, working closely with the company’s worldwide agencies network on dispute and litigation issues.
  • Be part of the team that develops and recommends litigation strategies, conduct legal research, review, interpret and apply applicable statutes, case law, and industry regulations.
  • Instruct and oversee external counsel and represent the company before governmental and regulatory authorities along with external counsel.
  • Collaborate closely with other legal functions in the company, including claims, compliance, M&A, competition, and contracts  regarding best practices for dispute resolution, participate in the development and review of company’s policies, procedures, and practices.

YOUR BACKGROUND

  • University degree in law from an accredited university.
  • Licensed to practice law and current member in good standing of a bar association.
  • More than 8 years’ post-qualification experience in litigation and dispute resolution  working in a top tier law firm, a multinational company, or a government agency.
  • Experience in the maritime transport, logistics or commodities sectors.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills. You are able to define  litigation strategies and manage cases from start to finish in a way that meets business needs.
  • Team player with a proactive attitude: you enjoy working in a team and work well under pressure. You are able to manage and are responsible for your own matters, you will always team with other members of Legal and Business on any given matter. Strategic decisions are taken jointly.
  • You are a skilled communicator, and you strive to provide concise business-tailored legal advice.
  • You have fluency in spoken and written English and English legal writing skills; proficiency in Italian, Spanish or French is a strong asset.
