Responsible for assisting the Senior Vice President, Legal Services in the guidance and representation of Regional One Health in all legal aspects. Assists, advises, and consults with management and other personnel regarding contract review, revision and preparation, patient care issues, Medical Staff By-Laws, and provides legal support for risk management and claims management functions.
What you will do
- Apprises Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs of all activities, pertinent changes in internal/external market, threats, and opportunities in a timely and anticipatory manner and presents action plans for immediate implementation/approval.
- Assists, advises, and consults with management and other hospital personnel on a wide variety of issues including but not limited to contract management, patient care, Medical Staff By-Laws, and provides legal support for risk management and claims management functions.
- Reviews, recommends, and/or drafts corporate policies and procedures in conjunction with Risk Management, Nursing, Healthcare Excellence, Patient Relations and other departments or divisions.
- Assists outside counsel, risk management, claims management and insurance carriers with identification, control, reduction of loss exposure, and insured and uninsured litigation in corporate and facility operations.
- Assists and advises management, including Administration, Nursing, Medical Staff and other divisions and departments on medical legal issues involving patient care.
- Participates in the development, review, revision and interpretation of contract, policies/procedures and risk/safety issues.
- Provides rapid feedback, information and decisions to assure rapid response to internal/external market changes, opportunities and threats and provides support as required to implement action plans.
- Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for self-development and enhancement of professional competency.
- Remains current on health care law to provide legal advice and counsel to staff to assist hospital in achieving its mission.
- Establishes and maintains effective internal and external relationships to coordinate and integrate legal activities, interprets policies and procedures and problem resolution. * Has frequent contacts internally with non-managerial employees, management, physicians, attorneys, insurance companies, patients, and other health care professionals to explain complex material or persuade others to agree to a course of action. * Has regular contact externally with outside counsel, patients and family members, witnesses, contractors, suppliers and representatives from federal and state regulatory agencies and with colleagues from other organizations.
Qualifications
- Law Degree (J.D. or L.L.B) from an accredited college or university Required
- License to practice law in the State of Tennessee. Upon Hire Required
- Minimum 5 years experience in health care law, business law, insurance defense or related areas Required
