The Executive Director-Senior Counsel provides strategic legal counsel across multiple functional areas, serves as a trusted advisor, and leads complex projects. The role supports the mission and values of a nonprofit, patient-centered health system by providing sophisticated, practical legal guidance that enables the organization to meet operational, clinical, and strategic objectives.
Position Details:
This particular role will focus on supporting Mercy’s employment and litigation support needs, including support for employment and non-malpractice litigation. Skills desired include the following:
- Employment Law Expertise: Advises leaders on federal and state employment and labor laws, workforce policies, and employee relations, including hiring, discipline, and terminations.
- Employment Litigation: Manages and defends employment-related claims, including discrimination, harassment, wage/hour, retaliation, and labor disputes.
- Non-Malpractice Litigation: Provides guidance on corporate and operational litigation matters, including contract disputes, regulatory enforcement, and general liability claims.
- Litigation Strategy and Risk Management: Develops pre-litigation strategies, manages outside counsel, and oversees settlements, discovery, and trial preparation.
- Insurance and Claims Management: Coordinates with risk management on insurance coverage, reporting, and claims resolution.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partners with HR, compliance, operations, and executive leadership to align legal guidance with business strategy.
