Job Description:

General Counsel Denmark, Legal Director Nordics & Baltics

At Hitachi Rail, we are creating the future of sustainable mobility. We are seeking a highly experienced and business-oriented legal leader to join our team as General Counsel Denmark, Legal Director Nordics & Baltics.

In this key leadership role, you will be responsible for all legal, contractual, compliance and governance matters across Denmark, the Nordics and Baltics. You will act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, supporting strategic business decisions while ensuring the highest standards of legal integrity, risk management and compliance.

You will lead an international team of Legal and Contract Management professionals and play a pivotal role in supporting complex bids, major projects and commercial negotiations across the region.

Legal Leadership & Governance

• Lead all legal, contractual and compliance activities across Denmark, the Nordics and Baltics.

• Provide strategic legal guidance to Country Directors, Project Directors and senior business stakeholders.

• Define, implement and maintain governance processes that support business objectives while mitigating risk.

• Promote legal, contract management and compliance best practices across the region.

• Ensure alignment with Hitachi Rail policies, ethical standards and regulatory requirements.

Team Leadership

• Lead, develop and inspire a diverse and multicultural team of Legal and Contract Management professionals across multiple countries.

• Foster a culture of collaboration, excellence, continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

• Support talent development and succession planning within the regional legal function.

Bid and Commercial Support

• Support and oversee legal and contract management activities during bid phases.

• Advise on contractual risks, opportunities and mitigation strategies for major pursuits.

• Lead and support contract negotiations with customers, suppliers, consortium partners and subcontractors.

• Ensure effective bid review processes and legal risk assessments are performed.

Project and Contract Management Support

• Provide legal and contractual guidance throughout the project lifecycle.

• Drive contract management awareness and best practices across project teams.

• Support change management, claims management and dispute resolution activities.

• Contribute to the identification and realization of commercial opportunities while protecting project margins.

• Advise on complex commercial disputes and escalation matters.

Compliance & Ethics

• Support the implementation and application of Hitachi Rail's compliance framework.

• Promote awareness of legal, contractual and compliance risks among key stakeholders.

• Ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations and corporate governance requirements.

Education

• Master's degree in Law or equivalent legal qualification

Experience

• More than 10 years of legal and commercial experience within large international infrastructure, transportation, engineering or project-based organizations

• Significant experience supporting complex contracts, bids and major projects

• Proven leadership experience managing multicultural and geographically dispersed teams

• Demonstrated success in contract negotiations, claims management and dispute resolution

Technical Expertise

• Strong legal and contract management expertise

• Deep understanding of commercial contracts and project delivery environments

• Familiarity with public procurement regulations and procedures

• Knowledge of FIDIC contracts and large-scale infrastructure project frameworks

• Strong understanding of legal, commercial and operational risk management
