Our client, a leading real estate title services firm, is seeking a General Counsel.
This role oversees all legal, regulatory, and compliance matters, manages litigation, and advises executive leadership on risk management, corporate governance, and business operations.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary legal advisor to the executive team and board of directors.
- Monitor changes in laws and regulations affecting title insurance and ensure timely compliance.
- Provide guidance on underwriting practices, escrow procedures, and title clearance issues.
- Oversee compliance with federal, state, and local laws governing title insurance and real estate transactions.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and corporate documents.
- Manage litigation, claims, and disputes, including coordination with outside counsel.
- Develop and implement policies to mitigate legal and regulatory risks.
- Advise on mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions.
- Lead internal investigations and ensure adherence to ethical standards.
- Supervise legal department staff and manage departmental budget.
Qualifications:
- Active license to practice law in relevant jurisdiction.
- Minimum 5+ years of legal experience, in title insurance, real estate, or financial services.
- Strong knowledge of title insurance regulations, real estate law, and corporate governance.
- Proven leadership and management experience.
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving.
- Ability to manage complex legal issues and multiple priorities.
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with executives, regulators, and stakeholders.
Location: Remote (headquarters located in Upstate NY)
Hours: Full Time or Part Time
Salary: $400K
