About Us

We are the independent expert in assurance and risk management. Driven by our purpose, to safeguard life, property, and the environment, we empower our customers and their stakeholders with facts and reliable insights so that critical decisions can be made with confidence.

As a trusted voice for many of the world’s most successful organizations, we use our knowledge to advance safety and performance, set industry benchmarks, and inspire and invent solutions to tackle global transformations. Independence, integrity, and long‑term trust are at the core of everything we do.

DNV Group functions provide enterprise‑wide support on legal, tax, compliance, finance, communications, and human resources matters. Group also includes Research and Development, which delivers science‑based insights and foresight to address industry challenges affecting our customers, society, and DNV’s long‑term growth.

DNV Group Legal provides legal advice to all DNV business areas globally. The function consists of 39 lawyers and support staff in a distributed team located in Oslo (Head Office), Shanghai, Singapore, Dubai, Hamburg, London, Glasgow, Mexico City, and Houston. Group Legal is led by the Group Legal Director at Group headquarters and reports to the Group CFO.

The Conformity Assessment legal team consists of seven lawyers and provides legal support to three business areas: Maritime, Business Assurance, and Life Sciences. These business areas operate globally and predominantly deliver classic TIC (testing, inspection, certification) services, also referred to as third‑party conformity assessment and assurance services. As a globally leading classification society and TIC company, DNV operates at the forefront of its industries. We are actively developing digital assurance models and solutions and leveraging new methodologies and technologies such as data driven verification and AI.

DNV has the ambition to shape the future of assurance. The Conformity Assessment legal team plays a key role in enabling this ambition by helping the business capture upside opportunities while protecting DNV’s independence, reputation, and long‑term trust.

The team advises on the development and go‑to‑market strategies of new assurance services, ensuring that legal and regulatory considerations are addressed early and constructively. At the same time, the team acts as a trusted advisor on contracts, dispute resolution, regulatory matters, and the legal implications for DNV’s existing service portfolio, balancing commercial enablement with disciplined risk management.

We are looking for a lawyer to join our team who is motivated by working in a truly global organization that continuously pushes boundaries and enters new areas of assurance and law. This is an opportunity for a lawyer who thrives on variety, is curious by nature, and enjoys solving complex problems at the intersection of law, technology, and business.

About you:

  • You are comfortable operating where legal frameworks and business models are still evolving, and you take early responsibility for finding practical, forward‑looking solutions rather than defaulting to standard answers.
  • You will be part of a collaborative and supportive legal team, while also having the opportunity to build your own internal client relationships and shape your professional development. A genuine interest in maritime, sustainability, and/or assurance services is essential.
  • The role requires flexibility and the ability to handle a broad range of matters, including contract negotiation, business development initiatives, regulatory advice, and litigation support.
  • This role is well suited for a lawyer transitioning from private practice into an in‑house environment, or for someone with experience from a litigation‑focused in‑house role, a regulatory authority, or as a public prosecutor who is seeking broader commercial responsibility and the next step in their career.
