Introduction

Bellevue Gold Limited (ASX:BGL) is a high-grade gold mine in Western Australia. The Bellevue mine has an estimated 10+ year mine life forecast to produce ~150,000 Au ounces in FY26. 

Underground mining has occurred since late 2020 to establish multiple mining fronts that de-risks production with exploration potential expected to grow the current high-grade resource.

The Bellevue Gold Mine is located approximately 30km north of Leinster township and sits in a major gold and nickel producing district. The Company has a highly skilled management team with a track record of exploration success and development of major gold mines.

Bellevue Gold has the ambitious goal of net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for the Bellevue Gold Project by 2026. This will be underpinned by a sector-leading renewable energy power station, with a forecast 70-80% renewable energy penetration rate.

Description

The Legal Counsel will provide in-house legal services, included but not limited to legal support and advisory services on a range of legal, commercial and regulatory issues.

This position is permanent, full time based at our West Perth office.

Your main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Provide in-house advice and review legal matters as they arise
  • Assist business leaders to set strategy for major commercial and contract matters to achieve the best commercial outcome for the business
  • Provide accurate and timely legal advice to Company personnel on a variety of legal topics as required, including, but not limited to, contracts and procurement, corporate transactions, mining and native tile, labour law and project finance
  • Assist with the allocation of resources and skills between in-house and external lawyers to ensure legal advice is obtained in a cost effective manner
  • Review external legal advice as required, including assessing external lawyers’ performance
  • Review and development of contractual terms and contract documentation, including the maintenance of a contracts register
  • Assist the business in understanding contractual commitments, participating in dispute resolution/negotiations and providing recommendations for resolution and settlement
  • Liaise with internal Company personnel and Company brokers to ensure appropriate levels of insurance is held by the Company and business partners
  • Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, external counsel, public authority etc.), creating relationships of trust
  • Provide clarification on legal language or specifications to everyone in the organisation
  • Maintain knowledge of new laws and regulations that may have implications to the Company


Skills And Experiences

Key Skills/Qualifications/Experience/Competencies: 

  • Tertiary qualification in relevant legal discipline and admission as a Solicitor in Australia
  • Understanding of general mining operations
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience
  • Proven experience as a legal counsel in a commercial environment
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of corporate law and procedures, contract law, mining law, employment law and native title
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and commercial drafting skills
  • Excellent working knowledge of corporate transactions
  • Outstanding legal advisory and contract management skills, ability to clearly identify and articulate legal issues and risks
  • Solid understanding of corporate governance and compliance issues
