About the role - Mō te turanga mahi

The role sits within the Legal, Governance & People Team. The Legal & Governance part of the team is responsible for providing legal and governance services to the AMP Wealth Management and AMP Services New Zealand business. The role itself will provide strategic and pragmatic legal advice on a range of business issues, projects and products – but specifically in relation to commercial contracts, contract drafting/negotiation, M&A, IT and digital, privacy, marketing, brand campaigns, and climate related issues. This role will work closely with the Senior Legal Counsel (Commercial) & Privacy Officer and the Contracts Manager whilst supporting the nurturing of junior team members.

What you’ll need to succeed - Ngā wahanga matua o te turanga
- A New Zealand law society practicing certificate or be entitled to hold one.
- Minimum 6 years PQE working in a top tier law firm or other professional services firm and/or in house
- Minimum six years’ experience in generalist areas of legal practice including commercial contracts, contract drafting/negotiation, M&A, IT and digital, privacy, marketing, brand campaigns, and climate related issues.
- Strong legal thinking, knowledge, drafting and attention to detail.
- Demonstratable interpersonal and influencing skills.
- Impeccable customer focus and business partnering mindset.
- Ability to keep inquiring and learning under pressure or in situations with ambiguity.
- Empathy sufficient to predict stakeholder responses of a wide range of people at all levels of the business.
- Demonstrable understanding of the risk at tolerance of the business.
- Self-motivation to keep pushing hard issues and complex initiatives.
- Able to balance commercial and legal judgment and business risk to provide best business options.
- Ability to assist in the creation of the team strategy, and ongoing development of team culture.
- Desire to learn, improve systems and embrace change.
