The Legal & Regulatory Team
- The Legal & Regulatory Team sits within the Corporate Affairs, Risk and Legal (CARL) in Telstra. CARL engages with our external stakeholders to support the business, shapes and influences outcomes, builds and maintains relationships with government, regulators and media, and helps mitigate legal and regulatory risk. As a key component of CARL, the Telstra Legal team is not like other in-house teams. At the forefront of our success is our culture. About the Role
- We are seeking an experienced litigator (4 PQE and above) with expertise managing commercial disputes and strategic litigation. We especially welcome applications from disputes lawyers with broad experience, including inhouse experience operating in a highly regulated environment or managing regulatory investigations.

Key Responsibilities
As a Legal Counsel – Disputes & Investigations, you draw on your expertise within the legal domain, combined with your evolving breadth of experience to deliver against the following responsibilities:
- Give legal advice that is clear, commercial, fit-for purpose and tailored to the audience based on your understanding of the strategic priorities, legal requirements and current and emerging risks.
- Effectively manage an appropriate volume of legal work of a complexity commensurate with your experience by being well organised, delivering on agreed commitments and prioritising competing demands.
- Provide support on disputes (formal and informal), litigation and investigations, by identifying legal issues and risks that may have a significant impact on the business, providing expert legal guidance and project management, applying critical thinking, sharing informed insights, and implementing innovative solutions that achieve strategic objectives and resolve complex legal issues.
- Authentically engage, build, and maintain trusted and collaborative working relationships across the CARL team, as well as internal and external stakeholders, by assisting them with legal matters, processes, and standards.
- Demonstrate continuous learning by expanding your depth and breadth of experience in your practice area, including staying up to date with new and emerging legislation, case law, and regulations. You also adopt and develop proficiency in technology tools and an agile way of working.
- Apply your critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to identify legal issues and risks that may have a significant impact on the business, working collaboratively with team members to resolve them promptly.
- Demonstrate a customer first mindset.
- Provide training and updates to internal clients and develop precedents and tools to enhance client legal knowledge and expertise in collaboration with other lawyers.
About you
To be successful in the role, you'll bring skills and experience in:

Qualifications: Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent) and admitted to practice in Australia.

Relevant Post-Qualified Experience (PQE) (4 years & up is desirable)

Capability:
- Commercial litigation experience in a law firm or in-house team
- Enjoy problem solving and engaging and influencing stakeholders
- Adaptable and flexible mindset
- Strong commercial acumen and demonstrated ability to build strong business relationships
- Ability to manage projects autonomously and under pressure, as well as balancing and prioritising workload
Highly desirable qualification(s)
- Regulatory disputes and investigations (not necessarily in the Telecommunications sector)
- Experience in insolvency and/or Australian Consumer Law matters
- Fluency in AI tools – use of AI in your current role and a willingness to help us drive AI adoption and integration into our practices.
