Description

The Legal Counsel is primarily responsible for providing legal advice and support Leadership in variety of areas, which may include contracts issues, HR/labor law, disputes/litigation and medico-legal matters. 



Responsibilities
  • -Advises the General Counsel and other leadership of the institution regarding Sidra policies, programs, practices, and activities that are affected by legal considerations. 

  • -Maintains a collegial approach to problem-solving and a willingness to engage in clear and transparent dialogue about both legal and non-legal issues. 

  • -Works independently to manage timing and action plans for completing division’s functions and preparing correspondence, reports and other documents ahead of need. 

  • -Works independently to perform duties including creating and preparing routine materials, verifying, and editing all materials for accuracy and clarity. 

  • -Communicating with and managing any third-party bodies such as external counsel. 

  • -Supervising internal group for litigation and dispute management.  

  • -Researches and analyses law sources and complex legal issues, and prepares briefs/memorandums. 

  • -Reviews and prepares amendments to standard terms and conditions, if applicable.  

  • -Drafting, reviewing, approving and negotiating various contracts and agreements as needed. 

  • -Drafts and reviews letters and other legal documents, as needed.  

  • -Peer supports members within the Legal Department within the team about various area of law and practices.  

  • -Sets clear priorities in order to focus on those responsibilities and tasks 

  • -Ability to quick study, in some areas of the law that affect the institution and eager to learn areas of the law in which expertise is lacking.  

  • -Collaborating with management and external law firms to devise efficient defense strategies. 

  • -Demonstrates confidence in own abilities even when working in unfamiliar areas. 

  • -Meets work demands with considerable stamina, persistence, and a consistent focus on client needs and concerns, making extra effort and sacrifice to meet urgent requests. 

  • -Develops and maintains strong working relationships and trust with both senior leadership and colleagues in other functional areas of the organization. 

  • -Negotiates workable solutions to complex and sensitive legal issues through the use of influence and persuasion. 

  • -Displays appropriate listening skills even in difficult situations, questioning and listening to all parties to understand positions (including issues that are unstated or not obvious). 

  • -Calculates and highlights risks in business process and decision making. 

  • -Communicates and negotiates with external parties (regulators, external counsel, public authority etc.)  

  • -Displays a thorough understanding of the business model and mission of the organization, including competition and risk factors. 

  • -Sets clear priorities in order to focus on those responsibilities and tasks that add the most value, and continually re-evaluates priorities in relation to changing business/client context. 

  • -Conduct the work with integrity and responsibility.  

  • -Provides legal advice on contracts, medico-legal issues, labor law/HR matters, and other legal matters. 

  • -Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies 

  • -Adheres to and promotes Sidra’s Values. 



Qualifications

 

ESSENTIAL 

PREFERRED 

Education 

Bachelor’s degree in law 

 

Experience 

5+ years in legal role 

 

Certification and Licensure 

 

 

Maintains an active and current license to practice law. 

Professional Membership 

 

Law Society/Bar Association/GILEX or equivalent

  • Fluency in written and spoken English 

  • Familiarity with Qatar’s laws applicable to the organization, including the Labor Law. 

  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic.
